PM Sim is a high-impact, energetic and immersive way to accelerate understanding, acceptance and the success of Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) tools and best practices, such as PRINCE2, PMBoK or in-house methodologies, across your organization. Facilitated using a fast-paced, high-tech global retail scenario, PM brings to life the project based behavioral and process issues faced by many organizations. This unique experiential learning workshop creates breakthrough understanding of PPM Management tools and best practices, creates successful project teams, and transforms learning into an engaging, fun and highly memorable shared experience.

Obsah kurzu

Project Managers participating must successfully manage their projects through the lifecycle, allocating resources such as personnel and budget and taking corrective action as and when required. Multiple concurrent projects ensure portfolio management must also be applied to guarantee maximum project success and ultimately maximum business benefit.


The roles within the simulation ensure Project Managers must not simply consider their project in isolation but must also liaise and negotiate with Operations and Business Representatives. This ensures projects are considered in a holistic organizational context with the additional pressure of satisfying all stakeholders while generating a profit for the business.


The following aspects of Project and Portfolio Management are considered during each round:


ROUND 1



  • The first round of the simulation typically results in chaos. This poor performance is normal in Round 1 and is highlighted by the following results:

  • Working in silos (Operations, Business and the Project Office)

  • Poor project initiation and communication

  • Poor planning

  • Poor monitoring and control - scope, schedule and cost

  • Lack of business awareness


ROUND 2



  • The second round of the simulation addresses the issues of Round 1, with a view to introducing PPM based best

  • practices and tools to improve performance. These include:

  • Improved initiation/planning

  • Improved group cohesion and a sense of ‘working together’

  • Introduction of Project Management tools, including, but not limited to: Gantt Chart, Work Breakdown Structures

  • Planning adaptive action to improve performance


ROUND 3



  • The third round of the simulation takes the participants further on their journey of Project and Portfolio Management

  • maturity. Round 3 considers the following tools and processes:

  • Improved communication across the group, with a demonstrable ability to ‘share the vision’

  • Introduction of further Project Management tools, including, but not limited to: Critical Path Analysis, Arrow Diagramming

  • Method and the Precedence Diagramming Method

  • Management of risk across the project or program

  • Project Closing and Success

  • Poor planning
